HAYWORTH SPREADS DISINFORMATION ABOUT McCAIN/KYL BORDER SECURITY PLAN

Phoenix, AZ – On KGUN-TV in Tucson Friday night, commenting on Senator John McCain and Senator Jon Kyl’s plan to secure the border, Congressman Hayworth said, “this much vaunted 10-point plan, I’m still waiting to see the bill number it has in the United States Senate.

It’s not been drawn up as legislation. Right now it can only be interpreted to be a political document.”
It is unfortunate that yet again Congressman Hayworth hasn’t bothered to check the facts. The McCain/Kyl 10-point plan has been introduced in the Senate as S.3332. We hope that Congressman Hayworth is just merely uninformed, and not demonstrating a
pattern of being intentionally dishonest with the people of Arizona.

In response to Congressman Hayworth’s false claim about the McCain/Kyl plan to secure the border, McCain 2010 Communications Director Brian Rogers released the following statement:

“Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl have submitted their 10-point border security plan to the Senate, and the legislation is currently pending in the Homeland Security Committee. The McCain/Kyl plan was crafted in close consultation with law enforcement officers
on the front lines of the border security crisis, which is why it has the
support of Arizona Sheriffs like Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever and Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu. Sadly, as Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl fight to get law enforcement officers the tools they need to secure the border, Congressman Hayworth seems interested only in playing election year politics by attacking these critical efforts. We urge Congressman Hayworth to focus on what is good for Arizona, instead of what he thinks is good for his own political career.”
