CNN’s John King: “Let's move on to what I'm going to call a little bit of revisionist history. J.D. Hayworth is running against John McCain in an Arizona Senate Republican primary. Well, let's check this.”

J.D. Hayworth (Clip): “But I would also point out that if we want to be sticklers, the war that Dwight Eisenhower led in Europe against the Third Reich was never declared by the United States Congress. Recall the Congress passed a war resolution against Japan. Germany declared war on us two days later. We never formally declared war on Hitler's Germany. Yet we fought the war.”

King: “The facts would show in any history book that we did actually declare war against Germany right at the same time. I was saying today in the staff meeting that maybe the congressman feels a bit like this guy.”

Animal House (Clip): “Over? Did you say over? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!”

Animal House (Clip): “Germans?”

Animal House (Clip): “Forget it, he’s rolling.”

Animal House (Clip): “And it ain't over now.”

King: “All right. We get the point there. My answer to this is all of history can be explained in the classics. Take a couple quick seconds.”

Democratic Strategist Maria Cardona: “I actually think that the history book that he was looking at was probably put out by the Texas State Legislature or George Orwell.”

King: “Ouch. Political.”

Republican Strategist Robert Traynham: “He misspoke and he clearly needs to clean it up. The fact of the matter is that we obviously declared war on Germany.

King: “All right, Maria, Robert, thank you.”
