Arizona Senate GOP Primary: McCain 52%, Hayworth 40% - Rasmussen Poll

Election 2010: Arizona Republican Primary for Senate

Arizona Senate GOP Primary: McCain 52%, Hayworth 40%

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in Arizona finds McCain with 52% of the vote to challenger J.D. Hayworth’s 40%. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

The survey of 541 Likely Republican Primary Voters in Arizona was conducted on May 17, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/-4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Republican Governor Jan Brewer appears to be one beneficiary of the strong support the new law has among GOP voters. Eighty-five percent (85%) of likely Primary voters now approve of her performance as governor. Last month, prior to her
championing of the immigration law, only 54% of voters in her own party approved of how she was doing her job.

Arizona Republicans will pick their candidate in an August 24 primary. Businessman Rodney Glassman is the leading Democratic Senate candidate, and Rasmussen Reports will release new numbers matching him against the two Republicans later today.

McCain leads by eight points among male Primary voters and 17 among female voters.

Conservative GOP voters break evenly between the two candidates, while self-identified liberal and moderate Republicans favor McCain.

Eighty-six percent (86%) of all GOP primary voters favor repeal of the recently-passed national health care bill, including 77% who Strongly Favor it. Only 12% oppose repeal, with six percent (6%) who are Strongly Opposed to it.

Seventy percent (70%) of likely Primary voters have a favorable opinion of McCain while 28% express an unfavorable view.

For Hayworth, the numbers are 62% favorable and 31% unfavorable.

Those figures include 30% who view McCain Very Favorably and nine percent (9%) Very Unfavorably.

The numbers for Hayworth are 25% Very Favorable and 11% Very Unfavorable.

NOTES:

I can just see the Hayworth campaign headquarters imploding today. After the AZRTL endorsement of Sen. McCain yesterday, Prop 100 passing and now this poll, the Hayworth bid is just about over.

Congratulations to Shiree Verdone who has led the McCain Team for the past year. To set the record straight, Verdone is now heading up the Republican Victory Fund effort and it is NOT associated with the State GOP or Randy Pullen!

I wonder what Stephen Konut is going to say about this poll? LMAO!

Spin this one Shane!

The sooner JD is out of the picture the better. I am so tired of that unethical blowhard showing his pathetic face and bashing McCain on issues he is unsuitable to comment on!

JennsR I couldn't agree with you more. Even worse, the 'wannabes' who work for Hayworth. They disrespect Senator McCain on a daily basis. They work for Hayworth only for $$$ and to 'try' to make a name for themselves.

Plus they just plain hate John McCain, some of the BS they posted during the 2008 Presidential campaign proves my point.

John McCain is going to win & win big. What a great day for Arizona that is going to be!

JD Hayworth is a fine piece of work. I am not exactly sure how someone like JD has made his way back into our political realms, but the one thing I do know is that his consistent corruption is something we do not need or want in Washington or in Arizona.

This is great news and props to you for pointing out all of shiree's hard work.

Oh Did I forget to mention that I'm a proud supporter of John McCain and can't wait until we put JD out of his misery.

I wish I was a fly on the wall in the hayworth offices. They been beaten down pretty hard on this day and I love every minute of it. Way to go on Prop 100,

JD got back in by being media savy and realizing that you can sway public opinion simply by being good on camera or radio. Thank the lord that the side of public opinion that is so easily swayed are either uneducated or simply nuts .

The people have spoken not only thru vote but through donations. John McCain is way ahead in both arenas. Thank you AZ for remembering that flash doesn't alway equal substance.

Wow it looks like the Arizonan people completely disagree with just about everything jd stands for. SHOCKER!

This is great news for our states future. First we focused on our childrens education with prop 100 and now we focus on keeping them safe under Senator McCains watch.
