Pueblo Politics: Will the real Girlie-Man in the state's AG race stand up?

Friday, April 9, 2010

The race for Attorney General between Republican hopefuls Tom Horne and Andrew Thomas already promised to have fireworks.

And that was before they started taking swipes at each other’s testosterone levels.

Horne announced Thursday he’ll be filing a campaign finance report in a few days showing he’s raised about $300,000.

“I would like to think people are contributing because
they think I’m a great guy, but really there’s probably some who are just scared of the idea that Andrew Thomas might become Attorney General, the way he’s
abused his office.”

Thomas, who ran for Maricopa County Attorney in 2004 on a platform of tackling illegal immigration and who has taken credit for cutting the crime rate in his county, is reportedly under investigation for alleged abuse of his power in handling high-profile cases in Phoenix against two county supervisors and a judge.

Meanwhile, Thomas’ political consultant Jason Rose, in an email, mocked Horne’s choice of vehicle, which he considers effete. “One just cannot be a buster bad-ass attorney general and drive a Jag. Not possible.”

Horne isn’t above getting in on the inside joke. “It’s strange to have your masculinity challenged by someone who wears his hair long like a woman,” he said, referring to Rose’s trademark shoulder-length locks.
