New Web video details how Dean Martin joined Janet Napolitano in increasing state spending by $3.7 billion
Phoenix – Governor Jan Brewer 2010 committee launched a new video today, exposing the disconnection between Dean Martin’s rhetoric on spending and his actual legislative voting record.
The latest YouTube video set to a classic tune by Martin’s namesake can be viewed at:

As a State Senator, Dean Martin voted for Janet Napolitano’s budget increases 3 out of 4 years.
In fact, he sponsored 15 Napolitano budget bills and voted in favor of her budget bills over 70 times.
From 2003 to 2006, Dean Martin joined Janet Napolitano in increasing state spending by $3.7 billion:
2003 – State Senator Dean Martin Voted YES
2005 – State Senator Dean Martin Voted YES
- Budget Fiscal Year 2006 - 16.2% increase
- Voted for over $8.7 billion in state spending
- Sponsored all 15 Napolitano budget bills
2006 – State Senator Dean Martin Voted YES
- Budget Fiscal Year 2007 - 16.3% increase
- Voted for over $10.2 billion in state spending
When asked about the state budget problem
that he helped cause, Treasurer Dean Martin response was, "I'm glad I'm not in the Legislature having to figure this one
out." – Forbes.com, October 2008“
Dean Martin’s voting record does not match his rhetoric.
He talks the talk, but his record demonstrates that he doesn’t walk the walk,” said Former US Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters, Co-Chair of Governor Jan Brewer 2010,
“Actions speak louder than words. We have a proven leader with a 28 year conservative track record who is offering real solutions to a problem that Mr. Martin helped create. It is important for voters to know the truth about Dean Martin’s familiar name and big spending
record.”
Steven Slaton: Confession on Lincoln Day Dinner
By Steven Slaton
Myself with many others were honored to attend the Cobre Valley Republican Club, Lincoln day dinner. This was held in Globe Arizona on February 27th, 2010. There were very good guest speakers with Sheriff Paul Babeu of Pinal County, and Tom Jenney of Arizona for Prosperity.
The key note speaker was Arizona State Treasurer Mr. Dean Martin,
whom also is a Candidate for Governor. Mr. Martin was just about through with his speech, and he started talking on the subject how he, saved the State of Arizona millions upon millions by not reporting the revenue collected to then Governor Janet Napolitano back in 2007. Mr. Martin said that he informed his staff to withhold deposit so that the governor would not know how much money came into the treasury. Thus stopping her from spending it!
Now needless to say many of us in the room, seemed to be taken aback by this self proclaimed confession on how Mr. Martin overreached his authority as state treasurer.
Now I am the first person to be out their to protest all of the things that our former Governor Napolitano did which in turn created many of the problems that we face as a state today. However, we are a republic, where we follow the rule of law, and to remove someone such as Ms. Napolitano’s reckless spending and growing the state government, we the people have elections to remove our leaders whom abuse our system of government.
This is very worrisome, since if Mr. Martin did this on his own accord, what else has he done as treasurer while in office?
If we are ready to violate the Constitution such as Mr. Martin did, and the people submit to these unauthorized acts, we will deserve the chains that would forge on us all without the rule of law.
