Poll: 56 Percent of Voters in AZ-CD8 Will Likely Vote Against a Candidate that Votes for “ObamaCare”
"If the bill now is enacted by a razor thin margin with Congresswoman Giffords' help,
her constituents are warning her as to what the predictable political consequences will be."
—ALG President Bill Wilson
March 16th, 2010, Fairfax, VA—56 percent of likely voters in a poll conducted in Arizona’s 8th District will likely vote against a candidate that votes for Barack Obama's health care takeover bill this week. The poll was commissioned by Americans for Limited Government (ALG).
The full results of the poll, conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, can be viewed here. The crosstabs are posted here. The telephone survey of 400 Likely Voters was conducted by Pulse Opinion Research on March 15th. "These results are hardly surprising," said ALG President Bill Wilson. "Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords voted for the government takeover of health care in November against her constituents' wishes, and they're still angry about it."
56 percent of voters said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate in November if he or she voted for the bill, which is projected to cost $2.5 trillion over ten years once fully implemented. Only 41 percent would be more likely to support him or her.
The results of the ALG poll confirmed results from a similar poll conducted by Independent Women's Voice and The Polling Company, Inc., which found that 70 percent of voters in 35 swing Congressional Districts, including AZ-CD8, would probably vote against their representative if he or she voted for the bill.
53 percent said they would definitely vote against their representative if he or she helped pass the bill.
According to the ALG poll, residents of AZ-CD8 are against the health bill by about a 1.8 to 1 margin, with 47 percent strongly opposed versus 26 percent strongly in favor, a 21 point swing.
