2/26/10 Politico reports that Gov. Tim Pawlenty has backed Sen. John McCain for reelection in Arizona.
McCain is facing a fierce challenge from Tea Party candidate J.D."BIRTHER" Hayworth.
Pawlenty, who’s considered a contender for the 2012 Republican nomination for president, was on the shortlist of potential McCain runningmates in 2008, losing out to Sarah Palin.
Pawlenty announced his support for McCain on Missouri radio station 97.1 FM.
“I’ve known him for 20 years or more, and I respect him and know that he’s got a candidate in the primary, but yeah I do support Sen. McCain”Pawlenty told St. Louis radio host Jamie Allman.
He reiterated that support on Minnesota Public Radio.
