Franks Urges Pelosi to Stop Holding Health Care Negotiations in SecretCalls on House Speaker to Let C-SPAN in to Cover Negotiations
January 7, 2010 – Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) today released the following statement regarding Democrats’ continued closed-door health care discussions:
“The tactics being used by Democrats – secretly hammering out their government takeover of Congress behind closed doors – is, of
course, completely at odds with the goal of our American system of government, in which Congress is supposed to represent the American people, not work behind their backs. But these closed door meetings are also a necessary strategy for Democrats, because the more the American people have learned about the Democrats’ big-government plan, the more vehemently they have opposed it. As
such, Democrats must try to hide what they are actually trying to do, which has led to their refusal, thus far, to allow C-SPAN to cover their health care negotiations, even though President Obama promised multiple times during his campaign that the debate surrounding health care reform would be publicly televised on C-SPAN.
“It is time that Democrats stop playing political games and allow for an open debate over health care reform. The American people have already categorically rejected the Democrats’ proposed government-run health care system, so I call on my Democrat colleagues to stop plotting ways to force an unwanted bill down Americans’ throats and instead finally allow the many proven, free-market, Republican ideas for health care reform to be fully considered and voted upon.”
Congressman Franks is serving his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, and is a member of the Committee on Armed Services, Strategic Forces Subcommittee, Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee, Military Readiness Subcommittee, Committee on the Judiciary, Constitution Subcommittee, and is Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law.
