Congressman Trent Franks Condemns Obama Administration’s Capitulation to its Far Left Liberal Base
November 13, 2009 - Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) gave the following statement today concerning the Obama Administration’s decision to prosecute Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and four other detainees involved in the 9/11 attacks in civilian courts in New York City.
"President Obama and Attorney General Holder are not thinking of the families of the victims of 911. They are not thinking of the American peoples' security. And they are certainly not thinking of the message this will send to those radical militant Muslims waging a violent religious war against our warfighters in Afghanistan. Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and the other four detainees are not regular criminals. They are unlawful enemy combatants, enemies of the state who cowardly massacre unsuspecting men, women, and children.
"This decision is deplorable and the Obama administration should be ashamed of this audacious decision to put politics ahead of justice and national security."
Congressman Franks is serving his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, and is a member of the Committee on Armed Services, Strategic Forces Subcommittee, Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee, Military Readiness Subcommittee, Committee on the Judiciary, Constitution Subcommittee, and is Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law.

“This decision to try the 911 conspirators in a civilian
court in New York City, just a few blocks away from where the twin towers once stood, is nothing short of an outrage. Attorney General Holder claims that this decision is not political and that it is just based on justice and the law. This is an absurd and farcical claim. This decision is political, an appeasement to the ACLU, the Obama administration's liberal base, and a capitulation to the wishes of the terrorists themselves, who have been begging to be tried in a
criminal court.
