Eileen Klein Promoted to Chief of Staff
Kevin Tyne Departs Brewer Administration to be Adviser to RGA
PHOENIX – Governor Jan Brewer today announced the promotion of Eileen Klein to Chief of Staff. Klein currently serves as Deputy Chief of Staff for Finance and Director of the Governor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Budgeting. Also today, the Republican Governor’s Association announced that Kevin Tyne will join their team in an advisory role, assisting RGA in Arizona and throughout the west.
“It is with great honor that I announce the appointment of Eileen Klein as my new Chief of Staff,” stated Governor Brewer. “Eileen has served as an instrumental component of my team, and I am thrilled she has accepted this expanded and vital role. She brings a wealth of financial, economic and executive level managerial experience that will be a tremendous asset in these challenging economic times.”
“It is with mixed emotions that I announce Mr. Tyne’s move,” Governor Brewer stated. “Kevin has been by my side as a loyal
advisor, trusted confidant and devoted friend for nearly 13 years. He has served me and the people of Arizona with honor, devotion and dedication, and I will miss him dearly. I would, however like to congratulate him on an excellent opportunity to work with the RGA and look forward to continuing to work closely with him in his new role.”
Prior to joining the Brewer Administration, Eileen Klein was Chief Operating Officer for Arizona Physicians IPA by UnitedHealthcare, a $1billion corporation with 250 personnel dedicated to serving Arizonans with special health care needs enrolled in AHCCCS, DDD and ADHS programs. Ms. Klein also served for three years as Vice President of State Affairs, representing all UnitedHealthcare lines of business in government relations and public policy in Arizona, Utah and Idaho. During that time, Ms. Klein served as an executive committee member of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where she served as Chair of Public Affairs and in 2008 was named the Chamber’s Volunteer of the Year.
Eileen Klein spent over twelve years in state government in Arizona and Florida. She was the Director of Policy for the Arizona House of Representatives, where she served as chief adviser to the majority leadership. In that role, she oversaw the development of the state’s $10 billion budget and was responsible for directing policy staff in advancing major legislative initiatives and state government reforms. During her tenure, Ms. Klein served four House Speakers. Klein’s legislative experience also includes work at the Office of the Auditor General, where she performed audits to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of state programs.
Mr. Tyne, Brewer’s top aide for 12 years, was the first appointment of her Administration. Prior to ascending to the Governor’s Office alongside Brewer, he served as Deputy Secretary of State and as Brewer’s Chief of Staff when she was a Maricopa County Supervisor. Tyne worked for eleven years in Washington, DC, first with Senator Bob Dole’s presidential campaign and later on Capitol Hill for eight years as the legislative director for Congresswoman Susan Molinari (R-New York).
“Kevin will provide us with invaluable assistance as we work to retain the governorship in Arizona and elect more governors throughout
the West,” said Nick Ayers of the Republican Governors Association.
The transition process will begin immediately, and Mr. Tyne and Ms. Klein will work closely over the next three weeks in transition.
