Welcome to the thousands of members & their familes of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Organization coming to Phoenix this week. My late father was a 40+ year member of this wonderful group.
An estimated 13,000 delegates representing the 2.1 million members of the VFW organization are expected to attend the 110th Annual Convention. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, Rep. Harry Mitchell (D-AZ), Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and Congressman Bob Filner (D-CA), Chairman of the House VA Committee will address the delegates during the week. Several prominent individuals from astronauts Scott Carpenter and Buzz Aldrin to Major League Baseball player Rick Monday to military officers Army Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Rhonda Cornum and Air Force General Michael Hayden (ret.) to entertainer Connie Stevens will be recognized during the convention for their support of veterans and military personnel.
VFW is pleased to announce — for the first time in convention history — this year’s VFW National Convention will stream live on www.vfw.org from the Phoenix Convention Center.Live streaming is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. (MST) on August 17, during the call to order of the VFW/Ladies Auxiliary, Joint Opening Session. The live stream will continue for the duration of the session, including presentations of the VFW Hall of Fame Award to Connie Stevens, the VFW Eisenhower Distinguished Service Award to Gen. Michael Hayden (ret.), as well as appearances by many other notable guests. Streaming of the VFW General sessions will continue live August 18 – 20, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Replays will run from approximately 1 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the next day.
