Cong. JEFF FLAKE: There are Better Alternatives to Government-Run Health Care

On Monday I sent you a short message on the battle over health care policy in Washington. At the bottom of the message, I encouraged you to read a piece from Kimberly Strassel of the Wall Street Journal. If you have not read it, I would encourage you to do so by clicking here . She does a great job reporting on what Safeway, a national grocery store chain, is doing to tackle the rise in health care costs, while also providing access, quality care, and rewards for prevention.

Recently, I came across a clip of the Mike Huckabee Show on Fox News. Governor Huckabee had as his guest Steve Burd, the CEO of Safeway. It's a relatively short video, about seven minutes in length. I hope you'll take a moment to watch it ( click here ), as it shows what a company and its employees can do - together - when everyone involved recognizes that the best way to fix the health care crisis is to give individuals an active stake in their health care decisions.

Also, on another positive note, the Arizona state legislature referred to the ballot a state constitutional amendment called the Health Care Freedom Act. The amendment, if approved by voters, would guarantee the right of Arizonans to make their own health care decisions free from coercion (direct or indirect) to participate in any health care plan.

I have received many insightful responses to the last message I sent on health care, and I always appreciate hearing your thoughts and ideas. Please keep sending them as I do very much enjoying hearing from you.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Jeff Flake
