TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona had the lowest pork per capita of any state in the country, according to the “2009 Pig Book,” released Tuesday by Citizens Against Government Waste.
The watchdog group, who releases the book annually, took a look at the most egregious examples of earmarks in the $9 billion worth of pork barrel spending they found in Congress’ appropriation bills.
Arizona, though, had just $75 million of pork barrel spending. That worked out to less than $12 of pork per capita, the lowest average among any state in the country.
For comparison, Alaska had $322 of pork per capita, the highest average among any state in the country.
