Names Director of the Arizona-Mexico Commission and
Director and Deputy Director of Arizona Office of Tourism
PHOENIX - Arizona Governor Jan Brewer announced three new additions to her cabinet, naming Margie Emmermann as Director of the Arizona-Mexico Commission as well as Sherry Henry as Director and Mark Stanton as Deputy Director of the Arizona Office of Tourism.
In addition to serving as Director, Ms. Emmermann will also be a policy advisor to the Governor on Mexico and Latin America. Prior to her appointment, she served as Director of the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT), expanding the volume of travel activity through promotion and managing 36 employees, as well as five foreign trade offices. She has a broad background in both state government and Hispanic relations. Prior to her time at AOT, she served as Director of the Arizona Department of Commerce, leading and promoting economic development throughout the state. She has also served as policy advisor for Mexico and Liaison to the Hispanic Community within the Office of the Governor, where she reported to the director and acted as liaison on such issues as NAFTA and border ports of entry.
Ms. Emmermann also has a strong background in the private sector, having headed marketing and community relations for Bank of America in Arizona and US West Communications. At Bank of America she was responsible for managing Hispanic advertising strategies and marketing campaigns. At US West Communications, she worked her way from sales manager to segment manager, where she was responsible for developing and implementing advertising strategies. Throughout her career, Ms. Emmermann has been active on several boards and commissions, including the Arizona Tourism Alliance and Arizona-Mexico Commission Board.
Ms. Henry has years of experience in tourism marketing and hotel management. She has served as Manager of Hospitality Marketing for the Fiesta Bowl for the past three years, managing and negotiating contracts for hotel referrals and working as liaison and sales representative. In addition, she has served as Interim Executive Director of the Arizona Tourism Alliance, interacting with various state agencies to secure partnerships and participating in national summits. Prior to her service at Arizona Tourism Alliance, Ms. Henry worked at various hotels and management companies, including Marklyn Management Corporation, Cherry Valley Lodge and the Fiesta Inn Resort. Her time at each was spent providing leadership in the development and operations of hotels and resorts, as well as marketing and financial management. She proved her abilities to generate success as she helped raise revenues and facilitate more efficient operations tactics.
Throughout her career, Ms. Henry has been involved in various boards of directors. She has served as President of the Arizona Hotel and Lodging Association, President of the Valley Hotel and Resort Association and Member of the Tempe Sports Authority.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Stanton served as President of Stanton Public Relations, a marketing firm specializing in brand and issue management, crisis communications and new product introductions. He has a great deal of experience in public relations and marketing. He has served as Senior Vice President of Martz Public Relations, managing day-to-day operations and supplying financial planning and reporting to clients, as well as Vice President of HMA Public Relations and Media Relations Specialist in the Office of the Mayor, Denver, Colorado. He also has experience in budget and financial analysis, serving as Account Supervisor at Ed Moser & Associates and Account Executive at SS&W Advertising and Public Relations. He has also been a member of the Public Relations Society of America and the CEO Forum, and volunteers for various organizations, including the Scottsdale Prevention Institute, the Crisis Nursery, the Scottsdale 20-30 Club and the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications and Political Science from the University of Denver.
