New 'White Wash' resolution introduced by Arizona legislators, same day Michael Steele is elected first Black Chairman of Republican Nat'l Committee

Proving, once again, that mad dogs do bite - on Friday, all three of Arizona's LD-6 legislators, Sen. Pamela Gorman (R) and Reps. Sam Crump (R) and Carl Seel (R), joined Mesa Senator Russell Pearce (R) and several other Republicans, in sponsoring Senate Concurrent Resolution, SCR-1031.

This SCR would eventually amend the Arizona Constitution and is word-for-word identical to the first paragraph of the invalidated and contentious 2008 Arizona Civil Rights Initiative written by Ward Connerly's American Civil Rights Institute. The new SCR-1031, however, contains none of the ACRI's protections and exemptions that such definitive and absolute words surely require.

The 49th Legislature's 2009 SCR-1031 says only these words:

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring:

1. Article II, Constitution of Arizona, is proposed to be amended by adding section 36 as follows if approved by the voters and on proclamation of the Governor:

36. Discrimination or preferential treatment prohibited

Section 36. This state shall not discriminate against or grant preferential treatment to any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education or public contracting.

2. The Secretary of State shall submit this proposition to the voters at the next general election as provided by article XXI, Constitution of Arizona.

The failed 2008 ACRI, has some vocal and convicted cheerleaders in the Arizona House. During the 2008 Arizona Primary Election debate, the two LD-6 Representatives, Sam Crump and Carl Seel, each praised Ward Connerly and the words & spirit of the Arizona Civil Rights Initiative. Crump said,
" He's standing up for what's right........And that is equality under the law. Not giving people preferences. People that often times can't demonstrate any actual need based on merit in terms of their economic circumstances or life has dealt them a 'bad hand'. It's just simply, often times based on your gender or your race. And I think that's just wrong and I can't believe it continues to exist in our states and in our nation. So, I tip my hat to Ward Connerly."
Carl Seel finished with,
"I've talked at length with Mr. Connerly and he is a very impressive gentleman......When you look at the Civil Rights Act of '64, what's striking, is the language of it is very clear. It basically is to NOT create any preferences for ANY American. Which is exactly, or pretty much, what the Arizona Civil Rights Initiative is."
Since both AZ Houses have already concurred (conspired) on the brief text of the SCR, the next step is to give SCR-1031 its first read on the floor of the Arizona Senate after the 2010 State budget negotiations are finalized, according to Senate staffers. When SCR-1031 is formally introduced, the Senate members will vote and a simple majority of "ayes" will send SCR-1031 to a reading on the floor of the AZ House of Representatives.

Once read there, another majority of votes will, according to the AZ Constitution, force new Secretary of State, Ken Bennett, to rename SCR-1031 as a formal ballot initiative. This new "Arizona Civil Rights" initiative would then be placed on the 2010 general election ballot where voters will have the opportunity to amend the Arizona Constitution.

Another sad but true observation by The GHOST:

****The ironic publication of Arizona's SCR-1031 on Friday January 30, 2009 - the same day that Michael Steele beat South Carolina's Katon Dawson 91-77 in a race for the Chair of the Republican National Committee, is a not-so-gentle reminder that so many in the GOP....DO NOT GET IT !!....so we here at Politico Mafioso, are going to remind you - day after day - until you do or you die.

It's all because of stuff like this:
The ignorant but conservative, Dawson, was a member of a Whites-Only Southern country club until September 2008, when he resigned after being unable to convince the Forest Lake Club into changing its 80 year-old charter deed so he wouldn't be labeled "racist" during his run for RNC Chairman. Dawson found 77 members of the RNC who didn't think his WHITES ONLY membership disqualified him to lead the Republican Party of the United States of America.... but 91 brave men and women showed 77 good-old-boy, Republican dinosaurs the new STEELE CURTAIN.

**** UPDATE **** To answer some questions that have been received by Politico Mafioso regarding this post:
Michael Steele isn't for the Civil Rights Initiative and the end of Affirmative Action.....yet....and is on record as saying so. Neither am I. I'm not LEFT....I'm honest....I'm logical.

We don't have to look any further than the near-election of Katon Dawson as RNC Chairman to prove that as a country, we haven't quite got there yet. I agree 100% with the principle of the ACRI but I cannot agree that we live amongst people who would honor the code of color-blind behavior that the Initiative requires. We have some housecleaning to do in the GOP and thus far, we have failed to set any kind of example for anyone to follow since Abraham Lincoln set the bar.
