Governor Brewer Names Dep. Dir. of Communications, Policy Advisor on Natural Resources


PHOENIX - Arizona Governor Jan Brewer today announced two new additions to her staff, naming Kim Sabow as Deputy Director Of Communications and Michael Anable as Policy Advisor on Natural Resources.



“I am very proud to have Ms. Sabow and Mr. Anable join my immensely talented team,” stated Brewer. “Both bring a tremendous amount of knowledge and numerous years of experience to the Governor’s Office. They are both respected professionals in their fields and will be great assets to my administration.”

Ms. Sabow will serve as the Governor’s primary liaison to all state agency Public Information Officers. Mr. Anable will serve as the Governor’s policy advisor for issues including public lands, water resources, the environment, military bases, and other natural resource issues.

Prior to her appointment, Ms. Sabow served as Media Coordinator for Brewer’s Gubernatorial Transition Office fielding all day-to-day media inquiries. Ms. Sabow joined the Brewer Transition Office after volunteering in the Southwest Regional Campaign Headquarters of Republican Presidential Nominee, John S. McCain. Sabow gave her time as a community and media outreach volunteer, serving as liaison to dozens of local, national and international media outlets that traveled to Phoenix to cover the McCain 2008 campaign.

Ms. Sabow has a diverse background in state government having served as Deputy Press Secretary for former Arizona Governor Fife Symington and having spent several years as an International Trade Specialist at the Arizona Department of Commerce. While at the Arizona Department of Commerce, she assisted numerous Arizona companies in expanding export sales. She has promoted and represented dozens of Arizona corporations on trade missions and at trade exhibitions throughout Latin America and Canada.

Ms. Sabow received her Masters in Business Administration in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts with double minors in Communications and Spanish from the University of Arizona in Tucson. She is a third generation Arizonan and resides in Phoenix with her husband, Dave and three children.

Mike Anable has many years of both government and private sector experience in natural resource management. Prior to his appointment to the Brewer administration, Anable led a private land consulting business, advising clients on a broad array of land and resource management issues including land acquisition for residential, school sites and mining operations, land exchanges, range management, off-road vehicle access, riparian restoration, property due diligence, agency procedures, and statutory changes.

Mr. Anable was appointed as State Land Commissioner and as a member of the State Parks Board by Governor Jane Hull from 1999 to 2003. Prior to his appointment as State Land Commissioner, he held a variety of resource policy positions in the State Land Department. Mr. Anable also spent two years as a Range Conservationist for the National Park Service at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Throughout his career, Mr. Anable has honorably served on several state boards and commissions, including the Governor’s Water Management Commission, Growing Smarter Oversight Commission, Joint Legislative Healthy Forest Task Force and the Military Airports Oversight Commission.

A published researcher, Mr. Anable holds both a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree in Renewable Natural Resources from the University of Arizona. He resides in Phoenix with his wife, Susan, and their two children.
