HJS on ED RENDELL and his Comments

Re: Campbell Brown on Ed Rendell.

I am a former Philadelphian and my first cousin (with whom I resided), a former Philadelphian, was chairman of the Democratic Party of New Jersey (I am a Republican, of course).

Ed Rendell is a familiar face and raspy voice to me, along with ill-fitting shirts and folded collars. An ex-prosecutor and D.A., Ed became mayor and then governor because it is a Democratic Party city and state. If Campbell Brown says he is known for his candor, I would ask "known by whom?"

He toes the party line no matter what it is. I am not certain that he has had any other thoughts cross his mind. I have
never known him to be intellectual or even thoughtful; to me he is a typical party hack, no more.

Another former mayor of Philadelphia, Frank Rizzo, was not known to be intellectual or even educated and never pretended to be; however, I would rank him very highly above both Rendell and Wilson Goode (I know Wilson Goode personally and worked with him almost daily). At least Frank was colorful, showing up at parties with a police billy club in his cumberbund. When I was in Taiwan, I was asked to put a VOTE FOR RIZZO sign up on a Chinese billboard and take a photo of it, which I did. He thought that was funny.

People like Rendell make people like Obama look more intelligent and more sophisticated than they are. Frank Rizzo was not hampered with liberal baggage that blinded him to facts and reason; he was human and enjoyed life and people. People were human beings to him with lives of their own, they were not paving stones as they were to the Democrats.
