Arizona House of Representatives Speaker-Elect, Kirk Adams (R-Mesa), just announced his new committee and chair assignments for the upcoming term.

Adams eliminated the Homeland Security and Property Rights committees and consolidated the (K-12) Education and Higher Education committees into a single committee that will provide comprehensive oversight for all State financed educational opportunities in Arizona.

Warde Nichols (R-Gilbert) is in the power seat, being awarded the the chair of the Rules Committee. Nichols can prevent any bill from being sent to the floor for debate.

Steve Yarborough (R-Chandler) was named Speaker Pro Tempore after he rallied his supporters at the eleventh hour to vote for Adams as the new Speaker.

Former House Speaker, Jim Weiers (R-Phx), was not assigned to lead any of the 15 House committees; however, his brother, Jerry Weiers (R-Glendale), was appointed to lead the Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee.
