Fight for Freedom

Subject: Fight for Freedom

When I look over my shoulder at the U.S. Capitol dome as I walk back to my office in Washington, DC after a vote, I am always struck by how lucky I am and what a great nation we have. It's a beautiful image that really does give me chills every time; whether through the haze of a warm summer night or flurries of falling snow. This inspiration serves to remind me why I fly to Washington every week.

There is no place I love more than Arizona. And, as a Member of Congress, my fight for my home state has led me across the country. Arizona is in the national spotlight this year as one of our own wages a battle for the White House - Arizonans should take great pride in this. Yet, while Arizona can boast of the men and women we have sent to the national stage, from Barry Goldwater, to Senator McCain, to Sandra Day O'Connor, our greatest achievement is our steadfast commitment to our nation's founding values - values I am confident that Arizonans will never abandon.

Unfortunately, these values are under attack; the mainstream media and Washington liberals believe they are outdated, and in need of "change." I disagree. Our founding fathers, in the Constitution, exhibited a profound understanding of human nature. In their brilliance, they recognized that when given freedom, people will achieve the unimaginable.

In just over 230 years, we have learned to fly, cured polio, put a man on the moon, and all but vanquished fascism and communism. Freedom will never be outdated. The choice this election is between John McCain, Sarah Palin, and other conservative candidates who would seek to protect and extend freedom, or, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Bob Lord, and left-wing candidates who would work to dramatically expand government and have it redistribute wealth.

McCain-Palin and Republicans would limit irresponsible spending of your tax dollars, give you control of your own health care, and let you make financial decisions impacting your retirement.

Obama-Biden and Democrats would raise taxes and infringe on your ability to make decisions for yourself and your family.

They believe that bigger government is the solution to our nation's problems, that a government bureaucrat will spend your money more responsibly and make better choices for your loved ones than you. The next few days are critical in determining our nation's future.

We have to explain to the people of this great nation what's at stake and the clear differences on the ballot November 4th. Americans don't want the kind of change Democrats are offering, which is why Republicans can and will win this election.

But, your help is critical. We have five days to go. Don't let up or give up! Double your efforts! Volunteer for John McCain and Sarah Palin, or whomever you choose who believes in and will carry on the fight for freedom. Put up a yard sign in your yard or a friend's yard. E-mail or write to your holiday greeting list. Most importantly, talk.

Tell everyone you see what's at stake in this election. In life, the only fights you are guaranteed to lose are the ones you give up without trying.

Let's win this together,

John Shadegg
