Tucson, AZ – Senator Tim Bee’s “independent leadership” commercial launched today. The ad highlights Bee’s bipartisan leadership in times of economic crisis. Arizona Senate President Tim Bee earned praise by working to pass Arizona’s budget without raising taxes.
“In these challenging economic times, we need leaders like Tim Bee that will push politics aside, put people first by getting to work. Tim Bee has a proven record of dealing with these types of issues at the Arizona legislature. He had to work on a tough state budget while protecting the taxpayer. Tim Bee made sure that the job got done.” Alberto Moore, local small businessman
“Just when it looked as though the Legislature
would be deadlocked over budget proposals, and just when we thought state government might be shutdown without money to operate, Bee came through. He showed why he's one of the best legislators in Arizona history by finding a compromise to solve a $2 billion budget crisis. ...Bee stood above politics and put taxpayers and common sense first as the legislative session drew to a close.” Bee helps avert budget crisis in state, Green Valley News 07-01-08
The ad also raises questions about the incumbent’s economic judgment. In a bad economy, she supported the largest tax increase in American history. During the first Bee-Giffords debate, she also stated her desire to raise taxes for anyone earning “two hundred thousand dollars or more”. That is American small business. Raising taxes in a bad economy is not sound judgment.

Gabrielle Giffords – part of what’s wrong with Washington
(1,2,3) VOTED TO PASS A HOUSE BUDGET THAT PAVES THE WAY FOR THE LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN AMERICAN HISTORY. Giffords voted on the FY 2008 budget that allows the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire (Roll Call 212, Mar. 29, 2007).
House Republicans tried three times in less than 24 hours to bring a bill (H.R. 2734) to the House floor that would make the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent. This included the death tax. However, Giffords voted all three times to block H.R. 2734 from being considered by the House, thereby keeping a massive tax increase on track for when the tax cuts expire at the end of 2010 (Roll Calls 186, 192, and 194 votes on April 15 and 16, 2008).

The Democratic congressional majority has shown its hand. It intends to allow most of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire and plans to raise other taxes to balance the AMT fix. Over the next 10 years, the budget resolution would raise taxes by an estimated $2.7 trillion--more than $2,000 per household annually.
