The McCain-Palin rally on the steps of the county courthouse began with Sen. Arlen Specter, who talked about the importance of Delaware County in the election, and then introduced Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Independent from Connecticut.
Lieberman got a big cheer with this line: "Let me say how nice it is to be in a place where I can finally say, `The Media is for John McCain."
Then it was Sarah Palin's turn, and American's best-known hockey mom got a rise out of the crowd with a reference to the Philadelphia Flyers.
"With your vote," she said, "we're going to Washington to shake
things up..."Americans are tired of politics as usual..." she said. "That's why we need to take the maverick of the Senate and put him in the White House."
Palin said that her priorities as vice president would be government reform, energy independence, and special-needs children.
Then, after Paul Teutul, Sr., of Orange County Choppers fame, rode in on his special POW/MIA motorcycle, it was McCain's turn.
In his 15-minute speech, he talked about his reservations about the Wall Street bailout plan being considered on Capitol Hill and criticized Barack Obama for not coming up with a plan of his own.
"Senator Obama hasn't outlined his plan, and I'm not surprised,"
McCain said, accusing his Democratic opponent of being MIA on the issue. "One week after the crisis began, he hasn't offered a plan of any kind...
"The truth is we don't have time for Senator Obama to recover from his paralysis in the face of this crisis."
He then spelled out his reservations about what Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson has proposed, repeating what he said in Scranton about the need for a high-powered oversight board that might include the likes of investor Warren Buffett, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
"I'll end the corrupt practices on Wall Street and the backroom deals in Washington D.C.," he said.
And he pledged, as always, to put "country first."
