Candidates' expenses questioned
Commission OKs inquiries of Schmuck and Newman
Just a week before the state's primary, the Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission voted Tuesday to investigate whether state House hopeful Frank Schmuck and Arizona Corporation Commission candidate Paul Newman violated elections law.
Elections Commission members threw out other complaints against firefighters' campaign committees and a number of state legislative candidates.
The commission decided to continue to probe a citizen's complaint alleging that Schmuck, one of four Republicans vying for two District 20 House seats in Tuesday's primary, failed to report expenses and in-kind contributions for fundraising events.
