HJS Comments: Putting the presidential candidates aside for the moment, why don't we just take another look at this globe of ours from a non-political perspective. We can always merge these facts back in with our thinking -- at least, those of us who appreciate real facts and not just decisions of political committees. Unlike politicians who paint you a picture of however they want you to think, perhaps you yourself would like to see things as they are. And as Walter Cronkite used to say, but of course it was not always the case, "This is the way it is." The treatise is a little lengthy, but I have added some outlining to make it easier to read. I have found that the more of this you read, though,
the more you want to know.

Introductory note: This is a paper presented several weeks ago by Herb Meyer at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland which was attended by most of the CEOs from all the major international corporations.
Herb Meyer served during the Reagan administration as special assistant to the Director of
Central Intelligence and Vice Chairman of the CIA's National Intelligence Council. In these
positions, he managed production of the U.S. National Intelligence Estimates and other topsecret projections for the President and his national security advisers. Meyer is widely credited with being the first senior U.S. Government official to forecast the Soviet Union's collapse, for which he later was awarded the U.S. National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, the intelligence community's highest honor. Formerly an associate editor of FORTUNE, he is also the author of several books.
