Some Predictions For 2008!

Arizona Sports

2008 maybe one of the best years in Arizona Sports history. Many of our local teams will be in great positions to win, lets look at what 2008 holds in store:

The Arizona Cardinals

After finishing 8 - 8 in 2007, the Cardinals stand to improve to a Playoff caliber team in 2008! The team has to sign some key Free Agents (which they will) and add a Stopper at Corner Back. Matt Leinart returns from his injured shoulder and a spirited competition with Kurt Warner will occur during the Summer (we need both QB's as we all know what happened this season). I see the Cards winning the NFC West (sorry TR, your Gulls are finished), and may advance as far as the NFC Title game, depending on Home Field Advantage....

The Arizona Diamondbacks

With the D-Backs recent trade addition of P Dan Haren, they should have one of the top Pitching rotations in the National League. With #1 Starter
Brandon Webb returning, along with #3 Starter Micah Owings, the D-Backs can dominate the NL West. Key need: a power hitting 1st Baseman. I think the D-Backs will repeat as Champions of the NL West and will return to the NLCS!

The Phoenix Suns

If the Suns can stay healthy, they will repeat as Pacific Division Champions. Grant Hill has proven to be a fantastic addition to the Starting Line Up. Steve Nash continues to be the MVP of this team; he will need some help from the bench. Home Court is going to be the key. If the Suns can get the best record in the West, they can go far. If they don't, it may be a short post-season.

Arizona State University Football

After last Thursday's embarrassing loss to Texas in the Holiday Bowl, you would think things at ASU looked bleak. Actually, the future looks bright for the Sun Devils. 2008 brings a tougher schedule - early home game Sept 20th vs Georgia (who will be a Top 5 ranked team), road games vs USC, Oregon State, Washington, & Arizona. But the Devils return much of the players from this years team. Coach Erickson will bring in the recruits he needs to toughen up the Offensive Line & the Defense. At this point, I see a 9 - 3 season, all will depend on that early game with Georgia. That will tell where ASU will be in 2008...
Politics

2008 will be a wonderful year for political junkies. Here are a few predictions I see for 2008:

Tim Bee vs Gabrielle Giffords - CD-8 US House of Representatives

The voters of CD-8, knowing they made a mistake in 2006, will elect State Senator Tim Bee as their next Congressman in 2008. Does CD-8, a Republican leaning District, like their Congresswoman voting along with Nancy Pelosi 96% of the time? I think NOT. Senator Bee will win a narrow victory over Gabby Pelosi in November 2008.

Bill Konopnicki will win in CD-1!

State Rep. Bill Konopnicki LD-5, will win in the September GOP Primary. There will be plenty of competition for this spot; 4 dems are running as we speak. Konopnickci will beat former Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick in the November Election.

Arizona Republicans will retain the House & Senate

Republicans will retain the majority in both the State House of Representatives and the Senate. The huge news will be in leadership positions. Speaker of the House Jim Weiers will be replaced whether he wins his re-election or not. Look for Rep. Kirk Adams - LD-19, to be a capable replacement.

The 2008 Race for President

On November 4, 2008, John Sydney McCain III will be elected President over Sen. Hillary Clinton. My prediction for the breakdown of Electoral College votes is as follows:

John McCain - 283

Hillary Clinton - 255

Question: What are the McCain Haters going to do when he wins the
Presidency?
