Where Has All The Money Gone?

Where Has All The Money Gone?

Many J.D. Hayworth donors were likely wondering why he left over $200,000 in his campaign account AFTER his failed re-election bid. It isn’t normal for a multi-term incumbent to lose in a heavily Republican district. Certainly, his polling numbers were telling him he was in trouble. If so, why not spend every dime trying to protect your seat?

Well, sadly, the answer is coming into view. Since January of this year, Hayworth has made two expenditures to law firms. The first was to the law firm DLA Piper for $11,659.54. If that was the only legal expense, you could almost argue that was counsel offered during the course of the campaign. However, the expenditure to Foley & Lardner, LLP in the amount of $64,817.56 is eye-popping for its size.

It appears that J.D. Hayworth is the target of some type of legal investigation. Given the news stories before the election, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to make some pretty good guesses.

Here is my first question for Hayworth. When you were busy soliciting, and according to MANY stories, offending donors late in the campaign cycle, did you know that you were going to keep over $200,000 in your bank account to pay legal bills? Here is my second question. If you knew that you were going to keep that much back, why didn't you disclose that to your donors or, at a minimum, start a seperate legal defense fund?

You asked donors for their money so Republicans would keep the majority. However, it appears your real intent was to use a significant amount of their money for your legal bills.

Sadly, this issue is not unique to Hayworth. It took Republicans less than a decade to become corrupt on many levels. Sources close to the U.S. House tell us that there are many more Republicans awaiting indictment and conviction.

This is one of the many reasons Republicans will spend time in the political wilderness for several more years. Republicans promised transparency and integrity. Republicans delivered neither long term.

Within a few days, Hayworth’s new quarterly numbers are required to be filed. We will be watching closely to see how much more is going into the bank accounts of attorneys.

Didn't JD receive a huge amount of last minute $$$ from the RNCC? I wonder how often this happens with Incumbants who lose their elections? On both sides of the isle?
