McCain stands up against dems over Troop Withdrawl stunt....

Article from KTAR:

Senator John McCain made his voice heard at a rare overnight Senate session that was marked with heated partisan debate over legislation that would require a troop withdrawal from Iraq.

Vocal opponent of a draw-down, McCain says the Democrats' plan to shift strategy to focus on diplomacy and rely on the United Nations is dangerous and sets the stage for future U.S. military involvement.

"The United Nations Security Council has not been... record has not been
very good, whether it be Iran, North Korea, or other crises... including Bosnia
where we had to go and basically bail them out."

McCain says a provision in the bill keeping a limited presence in the Middle East for targeted counter terrorism operations is a naive part of the most "unrealistic" strategies he's ever encountered.

"I guess that al-Qaeda would be required to wear t-shirts that say
al-Qaeda... and that way, we would know and it would be ok, it would be ok...
are you al-Qaeda? OK, Shiite militia, do whatever you think."
