Regarding "After he loses race, let's retire no-show McCain" (Letters,
Thursday):
It really saddens me to think that anyone could say that Arizona Sen.
John McCain deserves nothing from us but forced retirement.
Is this the way we honor a true American hero?Is this the way we honor
a courageous man who willingly laid his life on the line to serve his country
during the Vietnam War, who was nearly killed when several planes exploded on
the deck of a carrier and again when his plane went down in the ocean?
Is this the way we honor a man who was a prisoner of war for six years in the
Hanoi Hilton and refused to go home until all his fellow prisoners were released
first, and who, unlike John Kerry, didn't turn against his own country and his
fellow soldiers when he got home?
It is so refreshing to see a politician like John McCain who has the courage
to stand up for what he really believes in and not be swayed by the latest
polls. His stand on the war is correct, and his stand on immigration is
correct.
It is time for the people of this great nation to understand that we live in
perilous times and we need a man of wisdom, experience and courage to lead us as
our next president. John McCain is that man. -
