Now that the elections are all over, I have a question for the Pullen/Haney Team that now is in charge over at the Arizona Republican Party. During the campaign, time & time again, newly elected Chairman Randy Pullen told everyone that he would make sure to stay neutral during the 2008 Presidential Primaries. How will he keep this 'promise'? The literature, posted on the right side, was handed out at the recent State Statutory Meeting last Saturday, by a candidate for office on the Pullen/Haney Team.
"Penalize Republican PC's and Office Holders who
publically endorse candidates opposing a Republican"
Thank God that wasn't in play back in 1998 or the new Chairman would be in serious trouble...
But here is the real telling item:
" No support for John McCain while Conservative
Republicans such as ......."
Rob Haney and his band of 'Proxy Clones' will NEVER allow anything good about Sen. McCain to come from the 'new' Arizona Republican Party. Pullen owes Haney big time, it was because of Haney and his gang that Pullen was elected. This will be very interesting to see how Chairman Pullen handles this very delicate situation.

Tony,
I don't intend to be a defender of Randy Pullen, and now that he has been the head of OUR party for less than a week I shouldn't have to. Some points:
1. In 1998, it was my understanding that Randy Pullen was neither a PC or holding elective office. Therefore he would be free to vote or donate to a Democrat. Should the party grant someone access to Republican voters as an elected representative or PC, it should not be out of bounds to prohibit campaigning for Democrats while holding that position. What someone does behing the voting booth curtain is their own busisness, however. You want to strike out at Republican rivals, that is what the primary or internal party races are for. If you come out on the short end, work harder next time to get your point across. If you try to subvert the party by working with Democrats, or by sabotaging party efforts AFTER the primary process, you should be shown the door.
2. You do not mention who you got the flyer from, but it was not from Randy Pullen, or at the direction of Randy Pullen. It may have been from a supporter of Pullen, but because Horst Kraus supports Lisa James, that does not make Lisa a supporter of nudist resorts. That is just silly.
3. Obviously there are going to be efforts in Arizona to thwart McCain's presidential bids I agree that at times they may go overboard, and that the ferver is counterproductive and perhaps damaging. But this is the primary, where this is supposed to happen. Romney and Rudy will take their lumps here as well, as they should. Once the primary is over however, and the most pursuasive side is victorious, I would hope that ALL Republicans would back the nominee, no matter who it is. Until that nominee is established, however, the state party chair should just stay out of it.
Framer,
These points are brought up, not to knock Republicans but to show just how ironic it is that some in the AZ GOP want to "purge" the party of those who don't agree 100% of the time with them. They call others 'RINO's' and other names that cannot be mentioned here. Just pointing out facts sir. Thanks for posting. BTW, I certainly enjoy your blog. That's what makes America great. We may not always agree on the issues, but please don't tell me I'm not a loyal Republican. I AM!
Tony,
I would never confuse you for somebody supporting a Democrat, even if you are or are not a PC. I believe that the specific line item was meant for the "Republicans for Janet" crowd, of whom I know that you are not one of.
That is the point where I draw the line. If you are a Republican official and you campaign for Janet Napolitano, you left the line several miles behind, and yes there should be consequences. You can vote for her if it pleases you, but do not lend your status within the Party to her cause. That is not yours to give as you wish.
I have mentioned several times on my blog that I detest the term RINO, and agree that it needs to be stopped. I also believe however, that this is not the true cause of the division within the party, and is only a symptom.
Going back to the Eight District (We all know the world revolves around the Eighth District, of course)I will give this to Randy Pullen. He arranged for Steve Huffman staffers to work with Randy Graf after that nasty primary. It wasn't just window dressing either, they worked hard and were effective. If he could pull that off, I would argue that we should at least give him a week or two if not maybe a month to figure out how to start to heal the party without calling for his ouster.
That's just me though. I do hope others will join me.
