Univ of Phoenix Stadium?
The Arizona Cardinals today announced the naming rights to the brand new stadium in Glendale, AZ. University of Phoenix Stadium is the new name, purchased in a $ 7.7 million per year naming rights contract. Owner of the University of Phoenix is a man named John Sperling, a far left, ultra-Liberal who has in the past tried to legalize drugs thru ballot propositions in many states including Arizona. Sperling, 85 of Phoenix, also contributes thousands of dollars to many liberal causes & candidates including John Kerry in 2004. He is on Forbes list with an estimated fortune of $ 1.5 billion.
Apollo Group Inc. (NASDAQ: APOL), the multibillion-dollar parent company of University of Phoenix, has not been without its controversies. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in July launched an investigation into stock option practices at Apollo.
I wonder how the people in the city of Glendale feel? I thought the Cardinals were dying to get away from a university (ASU) and here they name their stadium after one? I guess money talks....
Follow Up from yesterday: Cards Coach Dennis (Da Knee) Green (nickname from his Minn Vikings days; he had his team take a knee in the 1997 NFC Championship Game just before halftime) has decided to start Kurt Warner as the starting QB for Sunday's game vs the Falcons. New Year, New Stadium, same old Cards. I wonder if Green, Warner, & Dirk Koetter will split the cost on a charter flight out of town by the end of the football season?
