Press Release - Tim Bee calls partisan action business as usual

Energy “compromise” only compromises America’s energy future

Bee calls partisan action “business as usual”

Tucson, AZ – Bee weighs in on partisan energy plan passed by the House.

“It is disappointing that instead of an ‘all of the above’ or even a ‘some of the above’, the incumbent’s party has chosen a ‘more of the same’ strategy when it comes to partisan politics and business as usual in Washington.”

House members were given an opportunity to vote on a truly bi-partisan bill (H.R. 6709 – “Abercrombie / Peterson” and Congresswoman Giffords chose to continue her partisan ways by voting against the bill and following lock step with Nancy Pelosi. It is an about-face from a statement given to the Arizona Capital Times following Saturday’s Bee-Giffords debate, the incumbent stated that

“"Everything I do is bipartisan. The bills that I sponsored, the work that I do, my advisory groups, my town hall meetings, the
work that I do in Congress - (they're) bipartisan, non-partisan," Giffords said. September 13, 2008.

“After five weeks on vacation in the district, the Congress clearly was not listening to the people. The people of southern Arizona want change, they want solutions. Americans are tired of the partisan posturing that accomplishes nothing. When I get to Washington, I’ll work with the best ideas, no matter who comes up with them. Congress is doing the people a terrible disservice by continuing to
play politics with the people’s pocketbooks.” said Bee.

The Pelosi bill is not a drilling bill. It will not produce more American energy. The Pelosi bill:

· Permanently bans off shore drilling within 50 miles of the coastline, where nearly 90% of the known oil reserves exist. It maintains the ban on drilling in the oil-rich Eastern Gulf and in ANWR.

· Denies revenue sharing with the energy producing states; in essence removing any motivation by state governments to access their resources.

· Has a significant tax hike of $85 million that will act as a disincentive for energy companies to bring more energy to the American consumer. Any tax increase will make it way to the American people spiking the already high prices.

· Has no lawsuit reform. No new refineries. No nuclear power.

· Will raise energy prices through a “renewable electricity standard” that will force energy consumers (Americans) to pay more for their utilities.

“The energy compromise bill only compromises America’s energy
future.” said Bee.
