After his game-changing win in South Carolina, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich continues to ride his surge to the front of the pack among likely Republican primary voters nationwide. He now leads Mitt Romney by seven points.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary Voters shows Gingrich with 35% of the vote, representing an eight-point increase in support from last week.

Former Massachusetts Governor Romney now draws 28%. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum’s support is little changed at 16%, while Texas Congressman Ron Paul picks up 10%.

Just two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate in the race, while nine percent (9%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

A week ago, it was Romney 30%, Gingrich 27%, Santorum 15% and Paul 13%. Texas Governor Rick Perry who has since dropped out of the race and endorsed Gingrich earned four percent (4%) in that survey.

Support for Gingrich has jumped a total of 19 points in two surveys
since early January, while Romney's support has held steady in that same period. Gingrich's highest level of national support to date, however, came in late November when he captured 38% of the vote after receiving less than 15% in prior surveys.

This came following businessman Herman Cain's decision to quit the race as conservative Republicans looked for an alternative to the more moderate Romney.It is worth noting that 41% of GOP voters nationwide are certain of their vote at this time, but 50% could still change their mind between now and their primary. Santorum’s supporters are the most likely to say they could still change their minds at some point.

Romney held a 22-point lead over Gingrich in Florida two weeks ago, but new Rasmussen Reports polling released Monday shows the former speaker with 41% support now among likely GOP primary voters in the Sunshine State with Romney in second at 32%. The Florida Primary is on January 31.

Thirty-nine percent (39%) of GOP voters nationwide now believe Gingrich would be the strongest opponent against President Obama in the general election, while 37% say that of Romney. This represents a big shift from last week, when 43% viewed Romney as the strongest Obama opponent and 29% said the same of Gingrich. Sixty-two percent (62%) consider Paul the weakest general election opponent to Obama.

Last week, 70%, regardless of whom they support, said Romney would ultimately be the party’s nominee. Now just 51% share that view, with 32% who think Gingrich will be the eventual nominee, up from 13% in the previous survey.

Among Republican primary voters nationwide, 35% think Romney is the GOP candidate who would do a better job managing the economy, but almost as many (32%) feel Gingrich would do the better job. When it comes to national security and defense, Gingrich is the clear leader: 51% think he would do a better job versus 18% who say the same of Romney. As for which candidate is best in terms of social issues, 28% prefer Gingrich, 25% Santorum and 23% Romney.

The national survey of 1,000 Likely Republican Primary Voters was conducted on January 23, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

CNSNews.com) – So far, during the presidency of Barack Obama, the price of a gallon of gasoline has jumped 83 percent, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

During the same period, the price of ground beef has gone up 24 percent and price of bacon has gone up 22 percent.

When Obama entered the White House in January 2009, the city average price for one gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $1.79, according to the BLS. (The figures are in nominal dollars: not adjusted for inflation.) Five months later in June, unleaded gasoline was $2.26 per gallon, an increase of 26 percent. By December 2011, the price of regular unleaded gas per gallon was $3.28, an 83 percent increase from January 2009.

The price of unleaded gasoline never reached the 10-year high of $4.09 back in July 2008 under George W. Bush’s administration, but it did get close.

By May 2011, gas prices hit a high under the Obama administration at $3.93, about four percentage points away from the July 2008 high.

The U.S. city average retail price for one pound of 100 percent ground beef was $2.36 in January 2009. As of December 2011, that price had risen to $2.92—a 23.7 percent increase and a new peak. (Ground beef prices have risen every month since November 2009 – 26 months of price increases.)

Whole wheat bread prices from January 2009 to December 2011 increased about five percent (5.02 percent) from $1.97 to $2.07. (The inflation rate in December 2011 was 3.0 percent.)

Among the first 36 months of Obama’s presidency, the last four (September, October, November, December) showed the average price of one pound of whole wheat bread hovering slightly above two dollars.

Other refrigerated items like ice cream and bacon have increased by substantial amounts.

Ice cream prices, for a half-gallon, were $4.44 in January 2009 and $5.25 in December 2011, an increase of 19.1 percent.

One pound of sliced bacon in January 2009 was $3.73 and in December 2011 had climbed $4.55, an increase of 22 percent. The price hit a high in September 2011 at $4.82 per pound.

Whole milk prices averaged above three dollars 33 out of the 36 months since Obama took office. In January 2009, the price for one gallon of whole milk was $3.58; but by December 2011, milk prices had slightly declined less than one percent (0.28 percent) to $3.57 per gallon.

The average retail price of Grade A eggs per dozen from January 2009 to December 2011 increased by less than two percent (1.30 percent) from $1.85 to $1.87.

Mitt Romney is in a free fall with Newt Gingrich now leading for the GOP presidential nomination.

Gingrich now has 31% support from registered Republican voters in the Gallup daily tracking poll, compared with 27% for the former Massachusetts governor.

The former House speaker now has completely erased a 23-point advantage Romney enjoyed earlier this month. Gingrich's standing reflects a surge last week, when he pulled in two strong debate performances and soundly defeated Romney in the Jan. 21 South Carolina primary.

The poll, a five-day rolling average, reflects a change from yesterday, which showed Gingrich and Romney in a dead heat.

In hypothetical matchups taken in mid-December, President Obama would lead both Romney and Gingrich, 50%-48%.

Gallup's Frank Newport said in a blog post yesterday that Gingrich's gains have come mostly from conservative Republicans. Gingrich jumped by 12 percentage points with that voting group, as Romney's support among conservatives fell.

Rick Santorum and Ron Paul each have 12% support among GOP registered voters nationwide, Gallup says.

I served as Graham County’s Second Vice Chairman, then First Vice Chairman, and I’ve been honored to be elected and re-elected as Chairman since 2005. It looks as if Washington insider Matt Salmon is attempting to reinvent himself. After a decade of lobbying for energy mandates, public employee unions, and crony capitalist projects, Salmon finally moved back to Arizona, bought a cowboy hat, and is attempting to reacquaint himself with some conservative principles (such as don’t give money to liberal candidates like Ed Pastor and Joe Baca).

Yesterday, in pursuit of his new image, lobbyist Salmon released an opinion piece condemning congressional insider trading. He’s right, politicians should never use their positions to enrich themselves, whether it’s through insider trading while in office or through lucrative lobby...err...other careers once they leave office.

What made his piece laughable is the fact that Salmon personally donated money liberal Congressman Ed Pastor, who was featured last month in a New York Times article about--you guessed it--congressional insider trading!

“When Ed Pastor was first elected to congress two decades ago, he was comfortably ensconced in the middle class. Mr. Pastor, a Democrat from Arizona, held $100,000 or so in savings in the mid-1990s and had a retirement pension, but like many Americans, he also owed nearly as much in loans. Today, Mr. Pastor, a miner’s son and a former high school teacher, is a member of a not-so-exclusive club: Capitol Hill millionaires.”

So, what gives? The Kirk Adams for Congress campaign asked Arizona voters, “Why would a former Republican U.S. congressman, turned lobbyist, donate money to a liberal Democrat campaign.” A few answers:

“They would give money to any campaign that served their particular needs.”

“Wasn’t principled in the first place and now he’s out for the money.”

There sure is something fishy about Matt Salmon.

The 2012 Manditory Meeting of the Arizona Republican Party is this Saturday, January 28th! At this meeting, a 'Slate' of candidates will be running for offices within the State Party.

Running for First Vice-Chairman is former Senate President RUSSELL PEARCE! Pearce, who was the 1st Arizona Legislator EVER Recalled, lost by 12% to now Sen. Jerry Lewis in the November 8, 2011 Recall Election.

(Funny that the Bylaws of the AZ GOP call for a 10 day written notice to the meeting) NONE of the State Committeeman I have spoken to received a written notice.

Less than two weeks ago, Mitt Romney had a 22-point lead in Florida, but that’s ancient history in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Following his big win in South Carolina on Saturday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich now is on top in Florida by nine.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Florida Republican Primary Voters, taken Sunday evening, finds Gingrich earning 41% of the vote with Romney in second at 32%. Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum runs third with 11%, while Texas Congressman Ron Paul attracts support from eight percent (8%). Nine percent (9%) remain undecided.(To see survey question wording, click here).

Florida allows early voting, and Romney leads among those voters by 11 points. Gingrich leads by 12 among those who have not yet voted. Fourteen percent (14%) have already cast their vote.

One-in-three (32%) say they still could change their minds before they vote in the January 31 primary. Another nine percent (9%) have no initial preference yet. Fifty-nine percent (59%) are already certain of their vote, including 73% of Romney supporters and 62% of Gingrich voters.

Rasmussen Reports has begun daily tracking of potential matchups between both Romney and Gingrich against President Obama (receive free daily e-mail updates).

Throughout the GOP race, Romney has always benefited from the perception that he was the strongest general election candidate in the field. However, among Florida voters at the moment, that is no longer the case. Forty-two percent (42%) now believe Gingrich would be the strongest candidate against Obama, while 39% say the same of Romney. At the other extreme, 64% see Ron Paul as the weakest potential candidate against Obama.

This Florida survey of 750 Likely Republican Primary Voters was conducted on January 22, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Newt Gingrich: Only I can go 'toe to toe' with Obama - GOP USA

WASHINGTON (AP) - Emboldened by his victory in South Carolina's Republican primary, Newt Gingrich said Sunday his hardline conservative views and confrontational style will be needed by Republicans this fall to fight President Barack Obama's "billion-dollar war chest" and take back the White House.

In several televised interviews, the former House speaker said rival Mitt Romney was a moderate who left GOP voters cold and that only he, Gingrich, could go "toe to toe" with Obama.

"I think in South Carolina it began to become really clear that if you want to beat Barack Obama, then Newt Gingrich is the only person who has the background, the experience and the ability to get on the stage and drive home a conservative message with authenticity," he said.

Gingrich's win in South Carolina has helped invigorate his once struggling campaign and cast fresh doubt on Romney's ability to easily cinch the Republican nomination.

Returns from 95 percent of the state's precincts showed Gingrich with 41 percent of the vote to 27 percent for Romney. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum was winning 17 percent, and Texas Rep. Ron Paul 13 percent.

Next stop is Florida, where Gingrich and Romney will compete with Santorum in the Jan. 31 primary. Paul has said he was bypassing the state in favor of smaller subsequent caucuses.

Romney and his ~~supporters~~ LOSERS are dismissing Gingrich's win in South Carolina and say his nomination would be a disaster for the Republican Party, citing his rocky tenure leading House Republicans in the 1990s and allegations of ethics violations.

Gingrich says his views on lower taxes, less government regulation and foreign policy put him in stark contrast to Obama and that the dynamics of a Gingrich-Obama fight are much more alluring to voters.

"I think Gov. Romney's core problem was that he governs (as) a Massachusetts moderate, which by the standards of Republican primary voters is a liberal. And he can't relax and be candid," he said.

Gingrich spoke on CNN's "State of the Union," NBC's "Meet the Press" and CBS "Face the Nation." Christie spoke on NBC's "Meet the Press."

HJS Comments: Over the years we noticed that predestination in the Middle East takes more than one form, but generally the person believes that whatever he is about to do has already been scheduled and there is nothing he can do about it. Someone dies, it was his time; someone survives, insha’llah, Allah willed it; I will see you tomorrow, insha’llah, I will see you tomorrow if Allah wills it. Is it an important issue for us Americans? After all, it is not usually discussed anywhere.

Not much about Islam is discussed anywhere these days, except what the Islamists want discussed. In fact, if the Islamists get their way—and too many people are inclined to give them their way—only good things can be said about Islam; it may be criminal to criticize Islam in any way. Verily, Qur’an sura 33, verse 57, despite what it says, is translated by Islamists to mean that one may never criticize or insult the prophet, Islam, or the Quran and that those who do may pay a terrible price in this world and the next. Whenever such penalties are attached to a described action, only the transgressor’s immediate death satisfies the Islamists. People have been murdered for centuries for saying much less about Islam than the Islamists say about Christianity or Judaism.

So it would be nice if some folks would dial up or email their favorite or not-so-favorite politicos and say something like, “Don’t you dare let the United Nations give in to those Islamists on the matter of not criticizing Islam. They criticize the hell out of us and our religions, so turn-about is fair play. Who in hell do they think they are anyway?” If we don’t do that, we may find ourselves without articles such as this, writers such as I (I’d be in jail), and in the dark about something we need to know more about.

Getting back to predestination, try this for a scenario. A very nice person, Abdullah (Servant of Allah), living in America, has a history of being decent to everyone he knows. He would never, ever consider being unkind to his fellow man. One day Abdullah heard talk that reminded him of his predicament. He knows he is a good person and loves his religion; however, he also knows that he is either going to paradise or hell. The imams cannot tell him for sure which path he is on; only Allah knows. He wants to go to paradise, of course, but he also knows he could be on the path to hell, which was predestined, insha’llah. What can he do to assure himself of paradise? He must choose martyrdom. He does not hate Jews or Christians, but Allah does, according to the Qur’an, because they are unbelievers, the worst of all animals in His sight. So gentle Abdullah finds some radical to sell him a couple of grenades, he walks into a New York delicatessen, and when he finds himself in the midst of a few folks who just came in for something to eat, he pulls the pins on the grenades, knowing that by killing Allah’s hated enemies, and dying himself in the process, he will feel no pain and fly to paradise immediately on the wings of little green birds. We have just discussed an individual; now suppose instead of Abdullah, we were discussing Iran’s leadership? They are building nuclear weapons to obliterate Jews and Christians, primarily. If they succeed, they will rule the earth. If they don’t, they still go to paradise for trying. It is win-win for them. Now just what do we intend doing about it? You certainly cannot depend upon this administration for answers; they don’t have any. I must believe that each one of us has an answer. Isn’t it time to tell congress what the answer is? HJS

A 'one-percenter' first-class is not what the nation needs in a president right now

The complaint that those of us who frequently refer to the nation's breathtaking disparity in wealth and income and to its 46 million poor are engaging in "class warfare" usually comes from people, like Mitt Romney, who live in the highest end of American class structure. They always throw the red flags.

"I think it's dangerous, this class warfare," Mr. Romney said of the Occupy Wall Street protests last fall. Campaigning toward yesterday's presidential primary in South Carolina, he accused Newt Gingrich, a fellow multimillionaire, of sowing "class warfare" with his criticisms of Mr. Romney's legacy at Bain Capital.

Republicans in Congress grouse about "class warfare" when anyone, foremost President Barack Obama, suggests that millionaires should pay more in taxes as the nation emerges from the Great Recession and confronts massive federal deficits. You can't seem to have a conversation about taxes, fairness and the common good without being accused of class envy

As for Mr. Romney, it's clear why he would accuse critics of engaging in "class warfare." He's an OPfc (One-Percenter, first class) running for president at a time when millions of Americans are still hurting from a recession brought on by the greed and misdeeds of his brethren in the world of high finance. Everything he believes about capitalism and the free market has been questioned in the wake of the Great Recession. He's fully vested in Reaganism — lower taxes for the wealthy and less regulation of commerce and industry means trickle-down prosperity for everyone — and he's not about to change that tune, even as more Americans smarten up and reject it.
